Philosophy for children is an integral part of our curriculum- deepening thinking and widening perspective.
Our assembly themes incorporate P4C. Termly themes break down into weekly topics and there is time every week for a philosophical discussion or activity.
This term's theme is as follows...
Weeks 1-4 'Keeping Healthy'
Week 1- Keeping the germs away.
Philosophical Question: 'What are you responsible for?' ' What responsibilities should children have?'
Week 2- The role of pain to keep us safe.
This week is a busy week with 'The Moon Rock' at the school, to be experienced by every class.
It is also 'World Book Day' on Thursday.
There will be discussions and questions around these themes.
Week 3- Hope not Hate introduction to the school
Philosophical Question- 'Is it ok to be angry?'
Week 4- The importance of exercise
Philosophical question- This is our 'author week' and we will have a visit from Elka Eralds introducing her book 'Granny Magic'. Philosophy will be linked to this book.
Weeks 5 and 6- Easter
Week 5: Our wonderful world in Spring.
Philosophical Question: If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be? Why?
Week 6: The Easter Story.
Philosophical Questions: Would it be better to give real eggs at Easter?
